Features
  • Patented Comfort and Support – The comfort and support of the Instinct comes from 5 key components in our patented sole construction.
  • Insole – We used a dual density EVA athletic insole for the instinct boot. The soft EVA provides instant comfort when you step into the boot. In addition to comfort the stiffer EVA provides support.
  • Shank – Imbedded in the polyurethane midsole the shank is perfectly positioned to provide arch support while letting the front of the boot and foot flex for bike interface and walking comfort.
  • Midsole – The PU Midsole has replaced the old hard lasting board that you find in most MX boots. The PU Midsole provides amazing step in comfort and vibration dampening. We were able to wrap the steal shank with the soft PU midsole for enhanced comfort and support.
  • TPU Stabilizer – Since the PU midsole is soft, we need to add support to the hell and arch. This was done with the TPU stabilizer. It is bonded to the PU midsole at the heel and arch area. Basically, the union these pieces create a dual density midsole.
  • Outsole – The Instinct feature Fox’s exclusive Duratac rubber, engineered specifically for MX use. We tested Goodyear but they did not want to develop a custom formula for Fox. We worked with our rubber supplier to come up with our own specific formula that would give us the best feel for the bike and bulletproof durability.
  • Fluid Movement – Everything about the Instinct was designed and engineered to move with the rider on the bike with zero restriction. Less restriction equals less fatigue. The hinge design gives the Instinct fluid movement and support with zero break-in time required.
  • The boot is ready to race right out of the box.

  • Patented hinge lock – The rear hinge lock stops rear motion before hyper extension
  • Elimination of the Velcro on the top gasket – We found that the velco was limiting movement. We found that we can achieve a better seal without the Velcro.
  • Interface
  • RCI – Ride Control Interface – The entire outsole and medial side of the boot is shaped and textured to provide the rider with unobstructed contact with the bike. This includes the Duratac rubber burn guard and hinge cover.
  • LRC – Low Ride Chassis – the new sole construction on the boot gets the rider’s foot lower and closer to the footpeg. A slim toe box design provides easier shifting and better feel and control.
  • Duratac – Compound on the outsole, burn guard and hinge cover was engineered exclusively by Fox’s development team to meet the specific demands of motocross. The goal was to aheive optimal grip with bulletproof durability.
  • Testing – The instinct has undergone the most extensive product wear testing in the history of Fox. 6 prototypes and hundreds of test boots over 3 years evolved into the Instinct of today.
  • We spared no cost to get it right. Major tooling changes were made between prototypes when we felt it was the right thing to do. We were making changes to improve fit, function and durability. The final major change was to actual boot sizing. We felt the test boots were running small. We went back to the factory and increased our sizing by 4mm. This was the right thing to do.
